"Doc" Captain Mark appreciates a conscientious customer being concerned about the qualifications and experience of the individual with whom they are entrusting their safety. This should be one of the very first questions a customer should be asking regardless of the nature of the charter. Be it a gentle cruise and a relaxing evening enjoying a sunset lighthouse tour and watching the seals on the ledges and islands. For those whom are a bit more adventurous possibly offshore whale watching or ground fishing for cod, haddock, pollack or similar species. Another fun adventure that Captain Mark offers would be Geocache tours enabling you to hunt for treasure on various locations around Casco Bay. Then for the sport fisherman we offer tuna and shark fishing. Regardless of your choice it is important to know that Captain Mark's primary concern is an enjoyable and safe charter. With that thought in mind Captain Mark wants to offer this short autobiography.
"Doc" has been acquainted with the ocean for more than thirty-five years. As a young lad he lived on board the family vessel, obviously spending many hours on the water; cruising on the Inland Coastal Waterway (ICW). Although one would like to report that this entire time was uneventful; it was not. There were times where "Doc", then Deck Hand Mark, was exposed to severe and extreme weather conditions; once crossing the Chesapeake Bay when the vessel loss of power to both engines. Albeit these experiences were not fun, they did provide "Doc" with invaluable experience, which has prepared him to meet ocean and sea trials face on with a cool head.
As a young man being familiar with marina life, then First Mate Mark, was hired to operate, under the direction of a Captain, vessels from New Jersey to Canada. Areas of operation were New Jersey Sound, Connecticut Sound, Hudson River, Erie Canal, and other offshore ventures. This experience not only introduced "Doc" to the boat and yacht delivery business, but afforded him experience operating vessels from 20' to 50' in length, single and twin engines, inboard, outboard and inboard/outboard vessels. This hands-on experience is a necessity for the Boat Delivery Captain to move a customer boat from its current port to the port of the customer's choice and an invaluable asset to the Charter Boat Captain.
Applying the education and experience from his youth "Doc" earned his USCG Masters License enabling him to operate vessels reaching to fifty gross tons. To put this in perspective the vessel you will be enjoying his many stories and this charter on "Irish Lines" is a 25 foot Trophy Pro Center Console. This vessel is approximately three-quarters a ton and designed for fishing. "Irish Lines" is moored in scenic Harpswell, Maine. Many of "Doc's" charters pass Eagle Island, Portland Headlight, Cape Elizabeth, the Kennebec River with Fort Popham and many other locations in the Casco Bay area.
"Doc" takes his job very seriously and obviously for the safety of all customers and the vessel he retains the right to cancel a charter should the weather not be cooperative. Should the weather cause cancellation, the party can re-schedule or ask for a refund. Since "Doc" does not carry cash with him on charters the refund will be mailed to the customer. While on a charter with "Doc" you can expect to see much of the local flair with the Lobster Boats. Along with the sights much marine life is experienced such as a variety of whales to include Humpbacks and Minke's, Dolphins, Seals and quite often schools of Football Tuna.
